The Government of Nepal (GoN) has received substantial financial support from the World Bank to cover the costs of the Enhanced Vocational Education and Training Project-Second (EVENT-II). These initiatives are pivotal in expanding the supply of skilled and employable labour within the country. The primary objective is to increase access to quality training programs and strengthen the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system in Nepal. A special focus was given on providing opportunities to disadvantaged youths, including those who are impoverished, residing in remote regions, females, individuals from marginalized communities, and persons with disabilities. This inclusive approach was designed to ensure all segments of society that can benefit from enhanced vocational skills and improved employment prospects.

This targeted approach aimed to bridge the gap between the demand for skilled labour and the supply of trained individuals, therefore fostering economic growth and personal development among the youth.

Action for Development (AfD) has played a significant role in this initiative by conducting four of the EVENT-II trainings. These include the Result-Based Short Term (RBST) Level 1 and Level 2, Special Women Window, Special Migrant Window, and Voucher-Based Short Term (VBST) Level 1 projects, spanning from 2013 to 2023. Over this timeframe, AfD has successfully trained 1,700 participants across various trades, including Brick Layer Mason, Furniture Maker, Tailoring, Dress Maker, Plasterer, Building Electrician, Building Painter, Junior Plumber, and Assistant Beautician.

To facilitate these training programs, AfD chose suitable training venues in multiple districts, including Banke, Bardia, Dang, Dailekh, Surkhet, Kathmandu, and Rukum. These venues were strategically located to meet the training needs of participants from diverse geographical and socio-economic backgrounds. The training programs were meticulously designed to equip participants with practical skills and hands-on experience, making them job-ready upon completion.11ecc968-0eef-4bd1-b276-2694827c4f3d1719989278.jpeg

Furthermore, AfD conducted skill tests for all participants and awarded certificates upon successful completion of the training. These certifications serve as a testament to the participants' newly acquired skills and significantly enhance their employability in the job market. AfD's commitment to job linkage with various stakeholders proved highly effective, resulting in an impressive employment rate of 85% among the 1,700 trained participants. This achievement underscores the success of the training programs and their impact on improving the livelihoods of the beneficiaries.

The success stories emerging from the EVENT-II projects highlight the transformative power of vocational education and training. By providing disadvantaged youth with the skills and opportunities they need to succeed, the projects have not only improved individual lives but also contributed to the broader economic development of Nepal. The inclusive nature of the programs ensures that no one is left behind, fostering a more equitable and prosperous society.
